Mumbai Meri jaan

Its about to be one month since my mumbai was torn apart. So was i.
Like everyone else. . I wept for those whose who died. I felt proud
for our NSG and the army. I felt disgraced and angry when our
politicians made a mockery out of this.
i went to the gateway. . Immersed myself in the spirit.
I just love my country too much. I love mumbai too much.

Train memoirs . .

I read somewhere once . . If you want to see a snapshot of india..
Take a ride in its trains.. And its true.. Trains have been as
integral part of my growing up as anything could be.. My earliest
memories are of summer holidays.. Every year in may the entire family
would pack.. Actually over pack and make sure every possible calamity
was factored in! We used to travel sleeper class. Ac travelling was a
luxury and was avoided. Mom would make yummy puris n aloo ki sabzi and
choicest homemade pickles. It was a hearty meal :) and years without
fail. . That was the train menu. . That was an age without
distractions called cell phones and ipods. . So we had ludo and uno.
It was uninterrupted family bonding time over ludo. . Dad would cheat
like crazy and me and sis would keep a check on him. . But somehow i
guess he always managed to fool us. . He ALWAYS won!
travelling was also about making friends .. It never took long . . And
the kids would play antakshari and quite literally bring the house
down! :)
times have changed today. . Today i am travelling ac . . Listening to
music on my phone.. And blogging!
magar mujhko lauta do bachpan ka saawan. . The kid in me in alive and
kicking! :)

The homecoming. .

A wise man once said. . There is no place like home. . Home is where the heart is. . And its not merely about brick and mortar. . Its about the care, love and nurturing which the individuals residing in it bring to it. Really, home is where the heart is. Now, i have been out of home for ten odd years . . And yet everytime i go.. The feeling of being enveloped behind the doors of your home . . The reassurance of being people who are with you selflessly all these years. . Family. . Relatives. . Nothing can quite replace that. .

Its been one year since i last went home. .But i am off next week. But this homecoming is going to be a special one. . My bro and sis are flying down from america . . And after twelve odd years. . My entire family will be together. This one is for the album :) . .yes. . The homecoming beckons.

Jaane tu..

Life suddenly changed in last few days.. The last straw of hope is now
gone. I am so shocked that even after two days its yet to sink in.
Such is life.. Jo chaho wo agar mil jaye to wo zindagi hi kya. Bas.
Its enough for me now.. No more falling in love business for me.. No
more striving for love. Stay tuned. Someone has just lost his faith in
love.

Updating...

Helloz everyone,

Its been quite a long time since i blogged, which is surprising in itself, its funny how things turn out to be... when i had no access to blogging in my previous job, i used to itch to blog everyday... and now when i have all of that i am out of words!!

I just lost a very close friend, Gaurav Datta, who was my buddy, my bro, he meant a lot to me. There comes a time in everyone's life when we are so out of words, nothing we can say or write can probably match what the heart is feeling... Gaurav's death has shocked me beyond words.. and to think that he was only 26, he suffered a heart attack!!!

Guys, when i broke this news to my friends, i just said one thing to everyone... and i will just repeat this everyone reading this blog.. , please take care of your lifestyle. Eat well, at the right time, go easy on the booze n the dope and just sleep well...

I am finally starting to enjoy my new job... the work culture, the people, the late nights, the work itself... i am loving it here! :)

Its been a long time since i went home... and i am starting to miss it... and as things stand right now, i will not be going for diwali as well..

Amongst other stuff... Ganguly just announced his retirement.. gosh.. imagining the game without characters like him is tough.. and its because of him that Team India is what it is right now!

You will be missed dada! Well Played!

Dil Waalon ki Dilli...

Yet another bomb blast, in Delhi this time, innocent lives lost. Children left orphans, families destoyed. Bread-winners left handicapped. No words, no monetary relief can work...

and yet.. everything goes on as usual. aakhir dil waalon ki dilli hai.. the customary speeches of the spirit of the city, of the tragedy, and the survivors and the miracles.

Feeling low right now, just wondering, what kind of environment are we leaving behind for the future generations. Just a weird thought, our children and grand children will be growing up in the scenario where terrorism , jihad, nuclear holocaust will be day to day buzz words. they will be such common part of everyday life that we will be insensitive to death, until someday, we loose our near and dear ones.

Is this the beginning of the end?

PS- I have seen what terrorism can do.. i was in that train, 07/11/2006, Mumbai.

Life..

"Life is what happens to you when you are busy making other plans" - John Lennon.

These days i find asking myself again and again. What is life all about. You spend all your time making it worthwhile, you slog, you worry about innumerable things, work towards a better future.. with a total disregard about the present. There is a constant fear of past catching up.. you wish to believe that you are strong enough to handle it when the time comes..

Rob in "Rock On" says " Life doesnt give anyone a second chance".. so true...  so many times, we wait for that second chance all our lives, but it never comes. Life itself is a One Time only affair. No retakes, no second innings.

Life is a gamut of emotions..

Love life.. Live life..

Life v2.0

So finally the Big day is here... my last day in the office.. before i take a week off and join my new job from August 1. Yeah, i am blogging in office.. on my very last day! In one hour my supposed farewell ceremony will start, wherein i am supposed to speak on my experience n all that. Yeah, you can understand the butterflies in my tummy...

I am quite looking forward to the next six days, when, for the first time in my life , i will be officially "unemployed"!! I am going to Pune for these six days, nothing relaxes me as much.. :)

Finally, just reproducing the farewell email which i sent to my friends and colleagues...

Dear Friends and colleagues,

It has been a truly enriching experience working with you in **** Bank. But in search of better opportunities, I will have to move on. Today will be my last working day.

In the two years that I have spent with you, I have learnt a lot of new things. I am carrying with me sweet memories which I will cherish forever. I sincerely take this opportunity to thank each one of you for the wonderful time that we shared.

I would always be available @ rporwal@gmail.com
and Mob-98200*****.

"You never really leave a place or person you love, part of them you take with you ,leaving a part of yourself behind."

Cheers to a new beginning...

Thanks and Regards,
Rahul Porwal

and so.. a new phase is about to begin... Life is going to go on a roll again.. Dream City!

SH*T!!

Husband and Wife are sitting quietly in bed reading when the Wife looks over at him and asks the question....

WIFE: "What would you do if I died? Would you get married again?"
HUSBAND: "Definitely not!"
WIFE: "Why not? Don't you like being married?"
HUSBAND: "Of course I do."
WIFE: "Then why wouldn't you remarry?"
HUSBAND: "Okay, okay, I'd get married again. "
WIFE: "You would?" (with a hurt look)
HUSBAND: (makes audible groan)
WIFE: "Would you live in our house?"
HUSBAND: "Sure, it's a great house."
WIFE: "Would you sleep with her in our bed?"
HUSBAND: "Where else would we sleep?"
WIFE: "Would you let her drive my car?"
HUSBAND: "Probably, it is almost new."
WIFE: "Would you replace my pictures with hers?"
HUSBAND: "That would seem like the proper thing to do."
WIFE: "Would you give her my jewelry?"
HUSBAND: "No, I'm sure she'd want her own."
WIFE: "Would she use my golf clubs?"
HUSBAND: "No, she's left-handed. "
WIFE: -- silence --
HUSBAND: "sh*t."

Your Call

Has it ever happened to you that there is something you seriously wanna blog about , formulate it all in your head, and then because there is no computer/net connection nearby, you proceed to make a mental note of it to blog later.. and then poof! you forget about it the moment you open the compose window...

Jenny: You don't want to marry me.

Ecstasy

Your very sight makes me go weak in the knees… there you are, shimmering in your luscious red.. your very sight is inviting me… the music is deafening. I am trying hard to resist you, but I know its an effort in vain. The distance between us is separated by millimeters now.

"Not here, not today.. why.. it was only last week!!", My mind reasons with me.

"Go on… one more time wont hurt"… My Heart wins… every single time…

Slowly, the millimeters vanish. Passion takes over. The world is watching.. but we are oblivious. We are one now.. the blend is perfect, I am unwilling to let you go… but I have to catch my breath.. I notice… your "flavour" is on my lips.. its lipsmacking…

Your tangy-salty taste craves me… wanting for more..

Oh! I love you…. Bloody Mary!!

Life as a 26 Year Old...

Being a 26 year guy in today's world is tough, what with the pressures of corporate lifestyles (where it is considered that you were working only if you stay in office till 9 pm everyday, even though you were just browsing through blogs and playing solitaire), the stress of commuting between work and home ( 2 hours one way...), and yeah.. the fact that you remain a singleton after all these 26 years... well, life aint easy!!

BUT.. wanna know whats even tougher? when you have friends who are either committed/engaged/married, and you end up hanging out with them all the time... you go to pubs, malls, movies... and you end up feeling like a big Kabab Mein Haddi!! Of course, your friends know your state but cant help but remark on and off " Rahul, ab tu bhi kuch karr!!" ... Gurrrrrr... and oh! to make you feel good, your committed friends would say " Rahul dude... tu jaanta nahi tu kitna lucky hai, bachelor life is THE life boss... "... oh yeah boss... why dont you try telling me that when you are kandoooling with your chick??? (dont ask me the meaning of that word guys.. )

You go out and hit the disc, and end up paying double than your committed "couple", stag charges you see... Saala chain se party bhi nahi kar sakte... as if being 26 AND single was not taxing already...

Life as a 26 year old is tough.. the emotions you go through are varied... you are supposed to play the tough boy role to the hilt... but you know that deep down inside you are an emotional wreck.. staying away from family for last 10 years of your life doesnt help either...

Aaahh... am i complaining too much? but i know the silver lining... that life as a 28 year old wont be this bad... :)

Smiling away... waiting for MY time...

Here and Now... The India Story

I have been really tied up lately (quite thankfully), the bank that i work in in going in for a new ad agency selection.. so the best of the best , namely Ogilvy & Mather, McCann Erickson, Dentsu, have presented their views on my bank and how to take it forward and the advertising strategy for it.

And so yours truly has had the pleasure of listening to likes of Prasoon Pandey( The man behind the Hutch-Vodafone Pug Ad and many more..) enlighten me which more marketing and brand related knowledge than i did in two years of MBA.
But why am i writing all this here?? because there was something common in all the 12 agencies that pitched in.. they all related by bank with the growing India story.. and the youth... and yes.. we live in fascinating times.. the time of the young and the 'restless' India.. an India which wants everything here and now.. an India which is buzzing with activities.. everyday is bringing up new opportunities and new achievements.. Tata taking up Corus is old news.. the new news is Bharti gobbling up MTN.. The IPL is the buzzword around the world... This is the time of the youth.. the salaries of young India are reaching never before levels... Makes me Proud.. who wants to go to U S of A?
oh.. and US of A reminds of Dubyaman.. who recently had the balls to blame India's "rising consumption pattern" as a reason for spiralling oil prices and hence the global recession. Yes Mr. Bush, for years we have let you have the best of everything, 'export' quality spices, fruits, condiments .. and have settled for the second or third best in everything.. Its time we turned the tables... and thats literally has had you shitting in your pants..

Its India Time dude... wait n watch!!

Happiness: Reposted

I Wrote this post one year back... somehow i thought i shoudl share this again... after all... its what we are searching for... Happiness...

An empty mind is devils workshop. . And when the mind is empty strange thoughts come into my mind. . And its during one of my empty mind days . . Travelling in an overcrowded local train. . That i thought of happiness. . Now you may ask. . What about it. . Now. . I am not a philosopher. . But i have a very vague idea of happiness. . And this basically starts from my own happiness . . Happiness is a state of mind. . Hence the age old hindi idiom called dil khush ho gaya. . Doesnt actually work. . Different people have different perceptions of what happiness is. . Its strange. . But i have seen people who have either lost everything they had in life. .and are yet as happy as anyone. . And the reason is simple. . They dont have any expectations. . So no expectations leads to happiness. . And then there is another breed. . People who expect so much from life. . They go on and achieve what they expect. . And that gives fulfilling happiness. . So. . Either you have nothing to loose. . Or you have everything aplenty.. But that does not always happen does it? So what is the happiness mantra.. Many people find happiness in the minutest of things. . I once had a fwd which said went something like this . . 4 friends. . One packet maggi . . One hostel room. . 4.30 am . . Is happiness . . Quite frankly. . I am astonished. . If happiness is so easy. . Why is everyone chasing it? . . Maybe therein lies the answer . . Probably if we dont chase happiness . . It will come to us. . What say? Rote rote. . Hansa seekho. . Haste haste. . Rona! So laugh. . Till you cry. . Adios!

Make That Move!

Last night I was watching this talk show on "NDTV Good Times" , and the topic was if its ok for women to make a first move.
If you ask me, I think its high time they started doing that! I am just writing down a guy's perspective here. Think about it.. in most cases this is what happens-
A guy, willing to express his intentions (and emotions) towards his lady love, spends sleepless nights and plans endlessly to make "the moment" a perfect one. He waits for the opportune time and place for it, and after accumulating all the ions of guts and courage inside him.. pops the question…
.. Now imagine the state if he gets rejected. not only is it a big blow to the poor fella's ego and self esteem.. his confidence takes a beating too.. and the first question he asks himself is "What's wrong with me!!! ". Ofcourse, I am not talking about the Romeo's who will happily shrug it off and move on to the next "target".

Obviously, in their defense the gals say that if a girl approaches a guy and asks him out .. she is immediately labeled as "fast" and "easy".

My big question is .. why should men have to bear this suffering while the gals just get away with a "no".
We are talking about a gender-equal world, aren’t we? so lets have a role reversal for a change girls.. let guys have all the pampering from you.. after ages of pampering YOU.. they sure deserve it… give them that "care" and the feeling that "they" are special to you all..
Anyone game enough? Will anyone of ladies reading this go ahead and take that step?

Just too much in love.. with life.. with love itself..

( One of my very dear friend nidhi composed this... and trust me guys i believe in it.. and i have lived this... )

Tag hi Tag

Looks like the tag season is well n truly on!

I have two tages pending now… and even though I like doing them… other things (on my mind) have kept me occupied… but that’s a topic for a different post altogether.

Now, Divya's tag asks me to spell out six totally random things about me.. well, lets see how this one goes:

Random Fact #1: I have close to 3500 sms's in my cell… none of which are spams or forwards.. but personalized sms's sent by friends , family et al.. I dread the day (if and when) my cell konks off…

Random Fact #2: I need a newspaper and a cup of tea within five minutes of me getting up.. specially the newspaper.. It's something I have ingerited from my Dad.. I simply cannot start my day without the newspaper … even before brushing my teeth.. :)

Random Fact #3: I am the biggest spendthrift and shopaholic possible.. if anyone wants to write a book on "How to blow your money before you know it.." , I am your man!!

Random Fact #4: I have aquaphobia – basically fear of large amounts of water.. and so yours truly has drowned in the Arabian Sea, the Godavari, the Ganga, and the local swimming pool… yet somehow came out alive n kicking.

Random Fact #5: I am horribly pathetic at Maths… right from nursery till XII, and even at BCA n MBA.. Maths has been my nemesis.. only if I could tell u all how many thrashings I have had from my mom due to this… :)

Random Fact #6: I am fiercely romantic in nature.. and have no qualms in admitting it… I am the quintessential lover boy… :)… and I am waiting… for that special someone.. and yeah.. it will be breaking news on my blog the day it happens… keep watching this space for more… :)

Oh well that does it!! that’s short n crisp.. the way I like it…

n now I tag everyone willing to take this… shuru ho jaao!!!

Keep the Faith

When everything around you is dark.. nothing goes right and all's gloomy.. The first thing you do is look up the skies and say ,"Why God, why me?"

" I have been your perfect child, I have believed in you, have stood my faith in you, and this is what I get??"

..and at these times you question weather God is there at all? Or is it just a figment of imagination of earthlings to just alleviate their worst possible fears…

If, for a split second, you've ever doubted the existence of that supreme force, here is some fodder to ponder upon-

This story was shown on CNN-IBN two days back, and if nothing else, re-affirms the faith.

A Pregnant Lady, traveling in a passenger train bound to Ahmedabad went to the rest room to relieve herself, and quite astonishingly, delivered her baby (Two Months Pre-Mature). The baby slipped out of the combod (Those who have traveled by Indian railways know what I am talking about) and fell on the tracks.

By the time the shocked mother raised a hue n cry, the train had already crossed many a mile.

What are the odds of that baby surviving? From the cocoon and warmth of mother's womb to to the harsh realities of the railway tracks.

But she survived, and is now recuperating in a hospital in Ahmedabad.

There is someone up there, who is looking at us. Keep the faith in him. I know many of us in bloggersville (including me) have issues in life… heartbreaks, problems.. et al, and we have blamed it on him… Sab uski hi galti hai!

But he has something planned, and slowly but surely, it will unfold. Keep the faith Guys!

and yes, Miracles do Happen!

Wait for one in your life….

Ps- They are gonna name the baby "Karishma" ( Miracle).

Arranged Vs. Love

Love marriages are like fairy tales, they just seem so much right-a-thing-to-do. Two individuals meet, fall in love, spend some time together (can stretch from days to years) and on basis of their own judgement, tie the knot.

Makes perfect sense.
Or so I thought.

A friend of mine who is in a love marriage recently told me that there is no better a marriage than an arranged marriage. coming from her, this was surprising. On further prodding from me, she told me the reason behind this.
She said that while she was happy to have found the guy she loves and its great to have settled down with him. There is an increased responsibility on both of them to make the marriage a success, bcoz unlike an arranged marriage, here they have no one to blame if it goes sour.

The rationale is that while parents reluctantly do give their acceptance towards a love marriage these days, it comes with a clear clause. "Do not come back to us if it doesn’t work".

An arranged marriage, on the other hand, is like baptism by fire. Two strangers meet via a third party (relatives, matrimonials etc.) get very limited opportunities to talk and figure each other out, and then pronounce their verdict.

One of my friends recently had an arranged marriage, he and his lady went out to CCD for two hours n talked, came back home to their families, and said yes!. Freaks me out, hell, I cant even become friends with someone in two hours. Let alone going the matrimony way. I have, since that time, kept on wondering, what would you possibly know about a person in two hours to entrust yourself for your life??

But then arranged marriages are like stock markets. you enter at a high risk, figure out your way, invest (through your emotions, hell… you invest your life!!!) and wait for the boom. If it blooms, its beautiful, and if the bubble bursts.. well… you have your folks to shout back and say "this was your choice!!"

Another point here is that arranged marriage is an unexplored territory. You enter into it without knowing whats in store for you.. and once you are in it, you explore… you figure out the likes, dislikes, the comforts of your spouse.
My friends who have gotten into love marriages say that while marriage is the natural step to take once in love, there is something missing all the time, which only arranged marriage can provide.
What he essentially meant was that in he knew everything that was there to be known about his girl before they went the matrimony way, so marriage was only a way to solemnize their relationship… he still says that marriage has not changed anything in their relationship.. there is very little excitement vis-à-vis arranged marriage.

I know.. being in love is beautiful… but u will (god willing) fall in love in an arranged marriage too.. sooner or later.. what say?

I am wondering why I am saying all this… I still have time :).. just sharing some thoughts with u all..
So given a choice… what will you go for?

My Icon

The following is not a tribute to the genius of the Little Champ; it is just a recollection from the last two decades of dominance by this diminutive master-blaster. I am not qualified enough to pay the tributes; I leave the Gavaskers, Shastris and Chappells of the world to do that.

Sachin Tendulkar is an enigma. An Icon. A Legend of today's times. A One-man army who has fought many battles for the country and survived (and won) most of them. They say that in India cricket is a religion, by the same logic, this man is nothing short of GOD. We sure are lucky to be living in todays times when we can see this magician wield his bat.

He is the ONLY player currently who has been playing across three decades.. yes! He made his debut in 1989 against the likes of Wasim and Waqar in Pakistan (Trivia: Sanath Jayasuriya made his debut on Dec 26, 1989, so he sneaks in as well) and has been the backbone of the team ever since.

The life and times of Sachin has been documented by many authors and will continue to be done… that’s not my purpose of writing this post.

The few people who have had the honour of meeting him or even getting his autograph feel enlightened. Now imagine the honour of playing against him, bowling to him and feeding him vada-paos!!!!

Yah! My Boss is an ex-first class cricketer. He was a senior of Sachin-Vinod in local League and Club Cricket and has played with them until they made it big in the international circuit. So here are some interesting pieces of Trivia which he has shared, and I, in turn, am sharing with you all:

# All those who have seen Sachin n Vinod bat in their youth agree, and this includes my boss as well, that Vinod Kambli was infinitely more talented than Sachin. Just that Vinod was a bit of maverick and never took the game seriously(Always after the girls!) while Sachin was in love with the game and his dedication had always been unparallel .

# Sachin & Vinod have an unimaginable Vada-Pao appetite. So much so that every day after the practice session he(my boss) would buy 15 Vada-pao's, seven each for Sachin and Vinod, one for himself. (Its also another story that Vinod Kambli sent 32 vada-pao to sachin when the latter broke Sunil Gavsakar's record of 32 test centuries)

#Every Day Sachin's coach (The great Ramakant Archrekar) would place a coin on his middle stump… and would throw a challenge to all the boys out there.. get him out and take the coin… or else the coin belongs to Sachin. By his own admissions (Also shown in a Adidas commercial), getting that coin everyday meant more to him than all these billions that he earns today.

# Sachin had NEVER gotten hit wicket in his entire career (that’s around 22 years) until the match against Australia some time back.

# His batting practice would stretch till 7 pm everyday.. while Vinod would pack up at 5… and have seeng dana (peanuts). By the time Sachin used to finish, it used to be pitch dark.. and the coin, was in his hand always.

# Sachin NEVER wears a cap while batting, it has to be a helmet, which, according to him, helps him to concentrate better.

I could go on and on about more such anecdotes, but this piece, written by my boss himself (and reproduced here with due permission), would effectively tell you the honour and pride of watching Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar play cricket.

Encounter with the Master Blaster
The word "encounter" itself would put shivers down one's spine. But let me assure you, I am referring to an encounter of a different kind where the guns did blaze and the marksman was right on target. But the only difference was that here there were no casualties.
Well, I am referring to my encounter with India's cricketing Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, which took place way back in 1988. At that time Sachin was just 15 years old.
Sachin had already made lot of runs in school cricket and was a much-talked-about rising star on the cricketing horizon. Sachin's achievements included the then world record partnership of over 600 runs with Vinod Kambli when both these heroes scored a triple century each.
I was keenly looking forward to this Dr Kanga League Cricket Match versus Sasanian Cricket Club, which Sachin was representing. I lost the toss (as usual) and we were put into bat on a wicket drenched with the previous day's heavy downpour. My partner Madhav Bapat (a Rotarian from RC Parleshwar), who is well known in Rotary Cricket Circle, and I began very confidently and after about ten overs, in which we collected some 35 runs, the Sasanian captain signalled to Sachin to get ready to take over the bowling.
Sachin marked his run up. The same 4-5 steps’ run that he takes even today. I was already well set and I thought I had a good chance to tear this little fellow apart and get some quick runs for our team. Sachin moved in with his, now familiar, gentle run and released the first ball. Zooooom! It went past my nose before I could even move my bat. By this time the pitch was drying and it was expected that we would have to face many nasty deliveries. I was prepared for the awkward bounce but what surprised me most was the speed at which the ball went past me. At the non-striker end Madhav Bapat had a sheepish smile on his face. He pointed at his shoulder indicating to me " Don't go by this fellow's skinny look. He has very strong shoulders." A lesson was quickly learnt and thereafter I remained very watchful while facing him. After such a confident start (myself on 65 runs) our team simply folded.
Chasing a target of 165 runs, Sasanian Team also started well. They reached about 40 runs when two wickets fell in the same over and in walked the child prodigy. I promptly circled him with three close-in fielders with myself at silly point to pick up any bat-pad catch. I also resorted to non-stop sledging. Here I must add that I am playing competitive cricket for the past 38 years and on not a single occasion have I indulged myself in any unsporting behaviour. But I guess this was a special occasion. Here was a boy wonder who had plundered the school level bowling and I wanted to check, first hand, whether he was made of real steel and how would he fair among the experienced opponent. Sachin passed this exam with flying colours. During his innings, when my sledging became too much, he gave me a dirty look and the next ball was whacked past me to the extra cover boundary.
What I liked most about his batting that day was his ability to middle every ball and place it between two fielders. Most of his 34 runs came in ones and twos and he also kept every shot along the ground thus, giving absolutely no chance to our bowlers. In short, like a good pupil, he ensured that all the cricketing basics were executed to perfection. When they needed just six runs to win, Sachin decided to win the match in a grand style by trying to hit a six. Unfortunately this ball turned much more than expected and bounced a bit as well. And thus, the ball, instead of sailing over mid-wicket, took the top edge of Sachin's bat and flew straight into the hands of mid off. So ended a neat, clean and unspoilt innings by a champion craftsman who was to become a world-beater in a few years’ time.
This was the beginning of Sachin in a tough cricketing world. And I ensured that he gets his baptism by fire, by resorting to non-stop sledging. Much later I came to know that this innings was to be the foundation on which a huge sky-scraper was built in later years, when I read the book titled "Making of a Test Cricketer" written by Sachin's elder brother Ajit, in which a special mention has been made of this particular innings.
- Pradeep Godbole

The Pic at the top is from what i believe, his best ever innings,vs. Australia at Sharjah, feel free to disagree :)

Attitude

Happened to catch the MTV Roadies auditions over the weekend… and while it does make an interesting watch… I could not help but notice one thing that is common in all the three episodes they have shown so far…

It’s the attitude…

Now either I have grown out of "I-am-cool-so-look-at-me" generation, or I am simply untuned to todays times… but what I saw in the contestants so far was a chit pasted across their foreheads… that look at me I am screaming for attention…

They showed some real characters, who are just like one of us, one gentleman who had a gym belt flung across his shoulders to one lady who was all in black (down to black nail-polish… if I may add). a-la Bani of Roadies 4.

Are we becoming a generation of wannabes? Is being cool only defined as going out of your way and doing something so radically different that the whole world sits up and takes notice? No matter how weird it is?

Abstract.... and nothing else.

A Lot of dirty water seems to have flown under bandra Creek since the last time I blogged .. (oh the side effects of living in Mumbai!!!)… and the blogosphere is buzzing like never before…

I had the immense fortune and misfortune of visiting my native town… misfortune … coz my parents were outta town and I was welcomed by a locked and dusty home… but then home is still home… :) …

In what will be a precedence for all of my friends.. a dear friend got married in what was a typical Punjabi marriage.. lots of fun( I was the unfortunate soul entrusted with the responsibility of buying condoms for him.. a “gift” from all of us .. he he he).. lots of friends… lots of cocktail and finally on a chilly January early morning my dear friend abhishek got married and doomed… bhai… teri life khatam… di end :)..here is hoping him all the very best…

They say no one knows how to party like the punjabi’s … and I couldn’t agree more.. the zeal.. the enthu… and the will to party is unmatched… this is a gujju saying this… Punjabis do rock!!!

Its amazing to see your friends getting married off… I mean… one moment you see them doing all sorts of stuff with you… playing cricket… going to school… exchanging xeroxs just b4 exams… and the other moment they are exchanging pleasantries with ppl they remotely know in their reception.

Anyways… here are my five quick “must haves” in a North-Indian Wedding:

1. Thou shalt have a cocktail party b4 the reception.. (to appease the tipsy sponges of the town)…
2. Thou shalt have a DJ playing at your reception.. ( playing ONLY Punjabi numbers and Vengaboys.. braaaaazzzeeeeelllll )
3. Thou shalt have your wedding in a huge farmhouse/banquet with 5000 ppl attending :)
4. Thy wedding MUST go on till atleast 4 am in the nite.
5. Thy Baraat MUST play these songs “Ye desh hai veer jawanon ka” and “Aaj mere yaar ki shaadi hai “… these songs rock in a baraat!!!!

Anyways… I am back in Mumbai. That’s the end of that.

Now… lets talk about my favourite topic… L……O……..V……..E

Yeah.. its strange coming from a guy… but guys also do have feelings… and I daresay.. more than the gals out there…

I have been in love twice… once it was beautiful…. Before I broke it off… coz she was lying to me all along… and that’s something I cannot tolerate.. no matter what… and the second time I fell in love was unfinished… bcoz I fell in love with my best friend… and she didn’t.. well.. wish she did…

And then I look around me .. and then I see love everywhr… two of my best friends fell in love and got married… and just seeing them together and happy together fills me with glee…. But then there is this other friend of mine who has fallen in love four times in 4 years and has got her love all the time!!! So the deduction is that some ppl are plain lucky in love… while some are not…

Loving love… living love… wanting to be in love… all over again!

Cheers!
